The flashing yellow arrow means you may turn through gaps in opposing traffic.

A flashing signal NEVER means the signal is about to change. Any such signal that does this is in violation of federal standards.

These are the g-mest stupid f-king traffic lights ever installed!!!!!!!!! I'm not from Tyler so I've seen it from the outside. And outside of Tyler people think this city is run by idiots. These lights are more proof of that belief.

The arrow means you have the explicit right-of-way. In every other city in the world this means the oncoming traffic has a red light. But not here in Idiotville. And starting out as yellow/blinking????!?!?!?!?!?!

There is only one way to ensure efficient traffic flow - use a predictable lighting pattern. And here it is, as tried and tested in the rest of the civilized world for decades - opposing turn lanes get a green arrow, a few seconds later they get a yellow arrow, a few seconds later they get a green circle and at the same time the go-straight lanes get a green circle, several seconds later they all get a yellow circle, and a few seconds later they all get a red. Then the cycle repeats for the cross-traffic lanes. Etc., etc., etc. It really is that damn simple.

I completely agree with Greg. This is very frustrating! Recently, I was sitting at a red light on the loop & Old Bullard and the yellow light starts blinking before it even turned green. So I pull into the intersection to yield my left turn expecting the light to soon turn green. Instead within about 60 seconds the light suddenly changes back to red and I'm still stuck in the middle of the intersection. This is going to cause more accidents that it's supposed to prevent and it won't decrease traffic, because from now on, I'll be one of those people waiting it out rather than risking an accident or a ticket!

Yes, the most confusing signals ever devised are being installed on a few more intersections! You know in some places how the signal light starts flashing just before it changes? Well, these are the OPPOSITE! So, when this yellow arrow is flashing it means its OK to proceed, but when it lights up continuously, it means its about to turn red. (And just how is it that a flashing yellow light is "similar to the familiar solid green"?) So, in confusion, many people just sit there rather than risking going forward. With slower traffic, it may be safer (i.e., fewer wrecks with fatalities), but traffic doesn't move as well. That is progress in the eyes of Tyler's so-called traffic engineer!
