A story from TylerPaper.com this morning alerts us of new construction and restaurants coming to Tyler’s southeast loop. Among the new tenants will be Colorado-based burger restaurant Smashburger. This is welcome news to me after the Fuddruckers project on South Broadway appears to have gone the way of the Dodo bird.
Smashburger, the self-proclaimed “torch-bearer for the modern burger lover” will bring dining options to an area that has declined since the passing of Bennigans and Oxford Street (though Fat Catz has done quite well). Along with Smashburger, the developers are hoping to land additional eateries including a burrito place (Chipotle anyone?).
Has anoyone eaten at a Smashburger? Will this be a welcome addition? Let us know in the comments.

i have never even heard of smashburger, but i certainly welcome it. where exactly is that location. another good place in that area is cafe frontera. they also offer free wi-fi. also, juanita’s mexican restaurant is moving into the old oxford street, but that is not a big deal. i look forward to smashburger.

I love Cafe Frontera too but went there for lunch today and there was a note on the door they didn’t pay their lease so the landlord locked them out. I hope they manage to get that straightened out!

Is anyone besides my husband and me wishing Tyler would build some different types of restaurants? It seems like every time a new one is built, it’s either a hamburger place, a Mexican restaurant, a donut shop, pizza parlor, or Italian restaurant. We’re really glad to see an Einstein Bros. Bagels coming to town, but would really like to see a Souper Salad (competition for Jason’s Deli), a Boston Market and anything else we don’t already have something like in Tyler.

I hope Cafe Frontera reopens soon! My family loves it.
Please keep us updated on what happens.

I liked the food at Cafe Frontera and went several times until I witnessed a big health code violation then just couldn’t go back. The kitchen is wide open to the public, you think they’d be more careful.
Does anyone know what happened to Which Wich? I am also excited about Einstein Bros. and think Tyler could also use a Corner Bakery and Chipotle.

A Papadeauxs would be an excellent choice for Tyler.

What’s the best place in Tyler to get Tamales? I heard it was a place named Kjacks but I can’t find them.

Kay, why don’t you try Taco Bueno? Normally I would not order tamales from a fast food place, and I don’t particularly like any of Tyler’s restaurants tamales. I was pleasantly surprised by Taco Bueno’s tamales.

I’ve been to a Smahburger in Houston and it’s definitely a great place for a burger. I think it’s better than Fuddrucker’s or Red Robin. However, I agree with the earlier poster that we need more variety in Tyler. I’d love to see a Genghis Grill, Panera Bread, or La Madeleine here!

I am extremely excited about Smashbox coming to Tyler. If you are interested in this restaurant you can search for it on youtube. While I was watching videos about their food I got sooo hungry. The meat looks thick and juicy and they have all kinds of different buns–the hamburgers look awesome. I too believe Tyler desperately needs more restaurants! All they build in this town are Banks!!! C,mon people why cant we have a Saltgrass or a papadeaux….I get tired of driving to Dallas to get some great restaurant variety. Lets support Smashbox…we dont need any more restaurants to close in this town!

Though I cannot recall the name of the place in Austin, they have the greatest place to eat catfish that I have ever had. It is right off of Interstate 35. If someone in Tyler had the financing, the same kind of place would definitely work in Tyler. The place looks like a tin roofed barn and inside the floors are cement. Very unpretentious, but melt in your mouth beer battered catfish, hushpuppies, pinto beans, iced stainless steel containers of soft drinks and beer if you prefer, and my favorite, frosted mugs of rootbeer. Never had any better anywhere in the state of Texas. Great service, atmosphere, music and people are lined out the door on Friday and Saturday nights.

The place for tamales in tyler is The Tortilla factory on Bois D arc. They are simply the best there chips and salsa are the best in Texas, this is not a sit down resturant and the woman who owns it has had the shop for 20 years or so.

Tyler needs a restaurant/s serving decent Tofu, and a good menu for vegaterians and vegans. There is only one and it is Basil Thai, but you have to ask for it. Need a good Indian place. I want something different, but, not raw..unless its veggies.

Genghis Grill is coming to Tyler — on 110 next to Case Ole. Great place, always fresh. We eat at the one in Plano every time we are in Dallas….

My wife and I would love a Salt Grass steakhouse. It’s the 1 place we always eat at everytime we go to Dallas.

Just now hearing about Genghis Grill.
Anyone know what happened to Which Wich? coming to Tyler?
When they opened the one in Longview, they mentioned one coming to Tyler as well.
I love their Turkey Thank You sandwich – unique to their restaurant!

I didn’t find my Smashburger special. The Jucy’s burger I had (on Old Jacksonville) was very good, but my favorite burger in Tyler is still at Clear Springs…and they’re onion rings ARE special!
I miss Mia’s on Lemmon, or the franchise, Mi Cocina. The best Tex-Mex I’ve found in Tyler is in Chandler…San Pedro’s.
Genshis Grill is very good…I think our super picky health nut 15-year-old may actually be able to build an edible dish there.
